Drawing elements from their experience in improvisation and balkan music, the Norwegian accordionist Stian Carstensen meets the Greek lutist and singer Martha Mavroidi in a concert that aims to trace a new musical idiom on Wednesday, December 12th, 2012 at Onassis Cultural Centre.
Stian Carstensen is one of the most important accordionists of contemporary music scene. The combination of virtuosity and genius that characterize his performance is praised not only by great artists but by the international press as well. His music is a fusion of balkan, jazz music and bluegrass. The crossover of traditional with contemporary musical idioms is his common ground with Martha Mavroidi. Her collaboration with contemporary composers and ensembles along with her profound and long relationship with greek and bulgarian music traditions form her complex and unique identity. In this encounter, the two musicians bring their temperaments together in search of a new balkan sound towards tradition and imagination.
